TEAM G2G MEETS OSAS (Social Director Unilorin Students Union)

SOCIALITY IS NOT CARNALITY, IT’S TIME FOR US TO STRIKE A BALANCE  -OSAS
TEAM G2G MEETS OSAS
CAN WE MEET YOU?
My name is Amadasun Osaretin David Social Secretary of the University of Ilorin Student union, 400level Geology and mineral science. Am from Edo state, family of seven, 5 boys and 2girls, I am the last born.
HOW DO YOU FEEL BEING THE LAST CHILD OF THE FAMILY?
Being the last child of the family has its negative and positive side. Negative (All the house chores is left to the last born) the positive over shadows the negative because you get siblings to call on from home when you are broke.
IS OSAS YOUR REAL NAME?
It’s not my real name and its not my nickname. My name is Osaretin which means God is my strength and indeed God has been my strength. It is just that where I find myself in this side of the country which is Ilorin, many won’t be able to pronounce the name correctly so to be at the safer side, I shortened it to osas which is very easy for everyone to pronounce.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR POLITICAL BACKGROUND
The journey started from my primary school days, I have always had this charisma to be a leader, it is not something I force out of myself. It comes out naturally, I see myself as a born leader, started from being the class captain in my primary school in primary six I became the assistant head boy, same thing applies to my secondary school, J.S.S. 1 became the food prefect, S.S.S. 3 Labour prefect, then during my remedial period, I was the vice president of RRC (body) Remedial Reach out Call. 100L, I became a senator in my department, faculty senator in 200L, 300L honourable at the sublevel. Finally, the social director.
HOW DO YOU FEEL BEING THE SOCIAL DIRECTOR?
I would not want to be flattered at all, basically it has not been easy, infact my academics only God will help me and not make it suffer. While I was doing my campaign, there is this word I always use “Sociality is not carnality, it is time for us to strike a balance, though it is not easy but with God and a very strong time management”
HOW DO YOU VIEW THE SOCIAL OF ILORIN?
I came into Unilorin 2011, the social life was just there, I would not say beyond normal, but there were some norms and mindset and because of the environment, we found ourselves they are kind of rigid when it comes to social life. The population we have got in school, many of the students are indigenes if not 50% from Kwara state and it is a norm they have carried from childhood.
HOW DO YOU COPE WITH OPPOSITION?
There is  a saying by this popular musician 2face “ if nobody talk about you then you are nobody” and my pastor will always say opposition will catapult you to the next level, so I see oppositions as opportunity to get the next level, it gives me this challenge to fight more. Like when I resume this office, one of my opposition who lost sent me a text and said “let see what you will be able to do”. I told him it is not by my power or might but God, one thing am sure of is I am going to leave a mark in this school till tomorrow and will still be noticed. When the coke studio came he was shocked, infact he was the 1st to call me to confirm it if it was true. Since then he has stopped coming to my office. So I am looking for more opposition.
WHAT ARE YOUR SOCIAL PLANS/AGENDA FOR YOUR TENURE?
So far so good, we have seen some of them, like Airtel one mic, coke studio, onga cooking competition (winners went home with a big refrigerator) and the trade fair, the freshers carnival (Burn fire coming pretty soon, all things being equal we will be having unilorin got talent, Miss Unilorin 1st edition, as usual to round up our programme for the year. We will be having the annual SUG week and dinner with the award nite.
YOUR ROLE MODELS
Hmmm, basically I don’t do the role model things, but I have people that inspire me one of which is my dad (who is a retired military man but not tired) he has different words in different situation to cover for himself, there is no situation he does not have anything to say, so over time have learnt this witty sayings from him. Then my pastor Rev. Chris Oyakihlome (Christ Embassy) he is my teacher, my coach I think am a mentor to myself, I see myself and I challenge myself then (Team G2G also) LOL.
HOBBY
I like eating food and I told you I was the food prefect so it has been in the blood, then I like football and I play football alot,  I also like travelling.
